2. Something Lovely and More: Read
Narrative of the Life of Frederick
Douglass: A Slave. Write a response
essay in which you explain the subject of the book, the author’s purpose and
method, and treat some of his major themes.
(At least 750 words, due February 21).
3. Test: You
will be taking home a test next week on chapters 17-20.
4. Something More: Those of you who read Paul Johnson’s book this summer would do well to
return to his lucid pages and read his section on industrial
