A.P. U.S. Government and Politics

Assignment #7: October 29, 2007

"Congress"

1.  Read:  Our topic this week is how a bill becomes Law.  You have already read the text’s discussion of this topic; this week you will be looking beyond the textbook in order to write responses to the following:

&   Make a beautiful flow chart that demonstrates the process by which the brainchild of an individual or group proceeds through the channels of Congress to become a law.  Include detailed explanation.

&   Write at least two pages in which you discuss the process by which an actual law proceeded through Congress.  You may select either a recent or a historical example.

2.  Current Events:

Find three articles related to Congress; select them from the following sources: drudgereport.com, nationalreview.com, worldnetdaily.com, newsmax.com.  Summarize each one and comment on its relation to our topic of the week.  Discuss the apparent slant of the article and any questions or controversies that it raises.

Find one article that ties your topic to Congress—consult the same sources, and write it up in the same manner.

3.  Test:

Be prepared for a test on chapter seven, “Congress,” on November 5.  Check my website, schoolofrhetoric.com, for a study guide.
