"Congress"

 

1.  Read:  Our topic this week is the organization of Congress.  You have already read the text’s discussion of this topic; this week you will be looking beyond the textbook in order to write responses to the following:

&   Fill in the chart on page 245 with the names and states of the members in each position.

&   Write at least two pages in which you discuss the types, functions, and importance of committees in the House and the Senate.  Consider how the styles and personalities of the specific occupants of the offices affect their exercise of the powers of the office.

 

 

 

2.  Test:

            This week you are taking home a test on Federalism.  Study your chapter notes and the textbook.  Know the terms at the end of the chapter.  Be sure you know the following:

&   The types of Federalism—characteristics, historical eras, Supreme Court decisions;

&   Names: Marshall, Taney, Dred Scott, Franklin Roosevelt, The New Deal, Lyndon Johnson, The Great Society, Ronald Reagan, Newt Gingrich, Contract with America, George W. Bush, No Child Left Behind, Rehnquist, Roberts;

&   The difference between Categorical Grants and Block Grants.

 

3.  Current Events:

            There is NO CURRENT EVENTS REQUIREMENT THIS WEEK!
