"Congress"

 

1.  Read:  Read chapter seven in American Government: Continuity and Change.  Annotate your book, marking central ideas in each section, circling key words and definitions, and signifying ideas that you find interesting or controversial.  Make two or more pages of study notes in a form useful to you for review.  Be sure to include specific details including names and years.  Due Monday, October 22.

            *Write definitions and explanations of the terms listed on page 277 (you may do this in the context of your chapter notes; if you do, highlight the definitions). 

 

2.  Wait--Don't Go Away!!! 

            Find the names of California’s senators and the representative of the congressional district in which you live.

 

3.  Test:

            Next week you will take home a test on Federalism.  Study your chapter notes and the textbook.  Know the terms at the end of the chapter.  Be sure you know the following:

&   The types of Federalism—characteristics, historical eras, Supreme Court decisions;

&   Names: Marshall, Taney, Dred Scott, Franklin Roosevelt, The New Deal, Lyndon Johnson, The Great Society, Ronald Reagan, Newt Gingrich, Contract with America, George W. Bush, No Child Left Behind, Rehnquist, Roberts;

&   The difference between Categorical Grants and Block Grants.
