Seventh Grade Mathematics
Course Description:
This pre-algebra course will cover the following topics: reasoning and proofs, number sequences, functions, graphs, large numbers (including powers of ten) and logarithms, geometric figures (planar, solid, curves), probability and statistics, and algebraic equations. We will review mathematical concepts along the way including basic computation mechanics, conversion standards and mathematical history nuggets.
Textbook:
· “Mathematics: A Human Endeavor” (Harold Jacobs – Freeman Press)
Supplies:
· graph paper (lined paper may be used for non-graphing assignments)
· straight edge ruler
· A graphing calculator (TI-80 series) is recommended, but not required, for occasional graphing lab exercises. A few loaners may be available from the Academy to those who are unable to provide one.
· “A Student Workbook for Jacobs Mathematics: A Human Endeavor” is available for purchase through the Academy for $15. This workbook provides space for completing assignments and includes additional practice and review exercises.
