6^th Grade Language Arts Assignments

Week 27 – April 14, 2008

This is the week to finish those research papers! Most students are right on target and have done excellent work on these. I’m looking forward to reading them.

LC	No Language C this week to allow you time to complete your research papers that are DUE TUESDAY.
Writing	Begin revisions on your research paper today. Go back and read it through, noticing verb tenses, and checking for spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors. Use p. 291 of LC as a checklist.
Literature	Find your copy of Where the Red Fern Grows and begin by reading chapters 1-2.
Bible Memory	Begin memorizing Romans 12:1-2 today. Spend at least 5 minutes working on verse 1 today.
CS3	Begin Lesson 22 on pp. 78-79 by reading pp. 478-480 (up to “They Preach in Thessalonica”) in GCB and answering #1-5 on p. 79.
Poetry	None today.

LC	· None this week (see above).
Writing	Complete revisions on your research paper. You will not be re-writing this after I grade it, so please do your best job! Remove from your Language C book p. 291 and use it as a checklist for this paper.
Red Fern	Read chapters 3-4.
Bible Memory	Continue memorizing Romans 12:1-2 today. If you already know verse 1, spend 5 or more minutes on verse 2.
CS3	Read pp. 480-482 (up to “Paul Preaches to the Athenians”) in GCB and answer #6 on p. 79. Also, on the map on p. 97, locate Asia, Macedonia, Philippi, Berea, and Thessalonica, also Troas, Jerusalem, and Antioch. Notice where these events were occurring.
Poetry	Read over “Little Orphant Annie” by James Whitcomb Riley.

LC	· None this week.
Writing	Put your research paper together into final form to turn in tomorrow. Check pp. 109-119 in LC for a final, polished example. You should have a cover, a title page, your final outline, your final, polished draft, your bibliography, any pictures or illustrations, and the checklist (p. 291 of LC). Bring it to class! Congratulations!!
Red Fern	Read chapters 5-6.
Bible Memory	Finish memorizing Romans 12:1-2 today. Recite it to a parent and have him or her sign it off on your check list.
CS3	Read pp. 482-483 in the GCB and do #7-9 on p. 77. For #10, locate these places again on the map on p. 97. Bring this book to class each day as we trace Paul’s missionary journeys.
Poetry	Begin memorizing the stanzas discussed in class last week.

Have a wonderful Orthodox Easter break this week! No assignments on Wednesday or Friday this week. Look for next Monday’s assignments by Friday evening.
