Read the blue box at the top of p. 217.  Do Think A and Write B (orally, if you like).  Be sure you understand the difference between a linking verb and an action verb.

WS1

Read over all comments on the first draft of your newspaper article returned to you in class yesterday.   Make corrections and revise your first draft.  Write your final draft of this paper and bring to class tomorrow to turn in.

Roll of Thunder

Read chapter 11.  Don’t read it late at night!

Read the long blue box on the top of p. 218.  Do Think A, B, and C on pp. 218-219.

Writing

After you finish the book, write down a short summary of the events of Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry.

Roll of Thunder

Read chapter 12 to finish this powerful book!

Bible Memory

Finish memorizing John 1:1-5 today.  Recite it to a parent and have them sign it off on your Bible Memorization record.  You’re doing great!

CS3

Read pp. 450-453 in the GCB.  Do #5-8 on p. 59.

Poetry

If you did not recite it yesterday, review “The New Colossus.”  Read over these three poems: “A Nation’s Strength” by Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Old Ironsides” by Oliver Wendell Holmes, and “Solitude” by Emma Wilcox (all handed out in your poetry section).  Choose your favorite to memorize – they are each 24 lines long.

LC

Do Think D on p. 219.  Read the blue box at the top of p. 220 and do Think B on p. 221.

Writing

As discussed in class, formulate your assertion or opinion statement for your book review and begin filling out your book review chart with supporting details.  Bring this to class tomorrow to discuss.

Roll of Thunder

In light of the book you just finished reading, go to www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/mlkihaveadream.htm and watch Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a Dream” speech online.  This is the best copy I could find of this 17-minute video.  If you can, pay attention to all of it, but at least watch the first 5 minutes, then if you must, skip to the 10-minute mark and watch the end to get a feel for this outstanding moment in American history.  What impressions do you have?  Come to class ready to discuss it.

Bible Memory

If you need an extra day, finish memorizing John 1:1-5 today.  If not, begin memorizing John 13:34-35 today.  (We’ll come back to John 3:16-19).

CS3

Read pp. 454-455 in GCB.  Do #9-10 on p. 59.  Finish lesson 17.

Poetry

Begin memorizing the poem you chose on Friday “Nation’s Strength,” “Old Ironsides,” or “Solitude.”  Memorize the first two lines.
