Check the blue box at the top of p. 195 to review diagrams. Do Think on p. 195 and diagram the odd exercises on a separate sheet of paper. |
WS1 |
Practice writing a Lead Paragraph by doing Skill Builder 11, Day Three. Using the News Article Planning Worksheet you filled out on Monday, write a “sloppy copy” of your news article. |
Call of Wild |
Review all of your notes, answer any questions you skipped and look over the book in preparation for tomorrow’s test on this book. Remember characters, setting, conflict, climax, and theme. Bring your notes one more time to turn in at the beginning of class. |
Bible Memory |
Continue working on the Beatitudes for at least 5 minutes. Review verses 3-10 and memorize verse 11. |
CS3 |
Read p. 432 in the GCB. Do #5 and 6 on p. 43. Do also the memory verse questions on p. 42. Keep up with these just a little at a time and think about the answers as a mini-devotional! |
Poetry |
Finish memorizing stanza #4 of “The Road Not Taken.” For anyone who can say all four stanzas, we will begin reciting tomorrow. Final chance on this will be next Thursday, February 7. |

LC |
Read the blue box on p. 196 and do Think A on pp. 196-197. Ask a parent to correct your work and any previous pages from this chapter. |
WS1 |
Use your Student Writing Skills Checklist 11 to carefully review your entire news article. Check each item yourself, and make changes and corrections to your sloppy copy as you go through it. Be thorough! |
Roll of Thunder |
Read the Author’s Note and chapter 1 of Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry by Mildred Taylor. |
Bible Memory |
Finish memorizing the Beatitudes -- Matthew 5:3-12. Recite the whole thing and have a parent sign off the SECOND of the two “Beatitudes” slots on your checksheet. If you can’t, at least recite verses 9-12. |
CS3 |
Read pp. 434-435 in GCB. Do #1 and 2 on p. 45. |
Poetry |
Review “The Road Not Taken” one more time. Use your voice to help your audience understand what is happening in the poem. |

LC |
Do Think B and C on p.197-199. Have a parent correct your work. |
WS1 |
Carefully rewrite your News Article into as good a First Draft as you possibly can. Bring your first draft, sloppy copy, Writing Skills Checklist, and other writing exercises to class tomorrow to turn in. Remember: No late work this semester without a note from a parent. |
Roll of Thunder |
Read Chapter 2. This is a longer book and will be easy to get behind in, so come to class each week prepared for “pop” quizzes! |
Bible Memory |
Memorize Matthew 7:7 today. Recite it to a parent and have them sign it off on your checklist. |
CS3 |
Read pp. 436-437 in GCB (up to “The Day of Judgment” on p. 438.) Do #3 and 4 on p. 45. |
Poetry |
If you have not yet recited, say “The Road Not Taken” to a family member. Read over “O Captain, My Captain” by Walt Whitman. |
