6th Grade Language Arts Assignments
Week #12 – December 3, 2007
Wednesday, December 5, 2007
LC – Read the blue box at the top of page 167 and do Think A. Also, diagram any remaining sentences (#1-15) on p. 168 that we did not cover in class. Have a parent correct your work (and any previous pages from this Unit that are uncorrected).
WS1 – Using your Lesson 9: Student Writing Skills Checklist on page 9-11, carefully revise your Factual Paper into a polished first draft. Bring it to school tomorrow to turn in. (If you are not able to do this today because of the concert practice, you will have an extra day over the weekend, but then I will not be able to return it to you for revision until after Christmas break. Or, send it to me via email: crharbman@sbcglobal.net by Friday night and I will correct it for you.)
Rifles – Finish reading the book. Please come to class tomorrow prepared to discuss it. Bring your study guides and any notes.
Bible Memory – Continue working on memorizing this very famous prophecy of Christ from Isaiah 9:6-7.
CS3 – We will complete Lesson 10 (p. 29) on Friday. You may wait until Friday to do it all, or do part of it today.
Poetry – If you have not yet recited “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” I will give you one more chance in class tomorrow. We will not be able to memorize all of “I Like to See it Lap the Miles” by Christmas. So, choose one poem of Emily Dickinson’s and memorize two stanzas for next week. If you have already learned the first stanza of “Miles”, continue with the second. Extra credit if you learn all four stanzas! If you have not begun (or you wish to change), learn the much simpler “I Never Saw a Moor” or “I’m Nobody, Who Are You?” for NEXT Thursday.
Friday, December 7, 2007
LC – Do Think A and B on p. 169. Read the blue box on the top of p.170 and do Think A.
WS1 – Revise the returned first draft of your “Describing a Place/Battlefield” paper into a final draft. Type or write it neatly in pen on nice paper in final form. Put it in your folder to turn in on Tuesday.
Rifles – Look over the options presented on the “Project” sheet handed out in class yesterday. Decide what you would like to do for your closing project, and begin it.
Bible Memory – Recite Isaiah 9:6-7 by memory if you can and have a parent sign it off on your checklist.
CS3 – Complete Lesson 10 (p. 29). If you can, begin the Review Lesson (pp. 30-32). We will be taking a quiz on this section in class on Thursday before break.
Poetry – Work on memorizing 2 stanzas of any of Emily Dickinson’s poems in your poetry packet.
Monday, December 10, 2007
LC – Read the blue box on the top of p. 171 and do Think B only (yes, that is only 4 problems). Be able to identify a noun of Direct Address, and understand that it is not the subject. Review this chapter’s concepts by doing Think A-D on p. 172. Have a parent correct it and review difficult concepts with you. We will be taking this chapter test IN CLASS on Thursday.
WS1 – Complete Skill Builder 9, Day 3 on p. 9-10. If you did not do so last week, complete the first draft of your “Animal”/Factual paper to be turned in tomorrow. Catch up on anything you are behind on so you can enjoy Christmas break!
Rifles – Continue working on your final project. You may choose without penalty whether to turn this in on Thursday or to finish it over break and turn it in on Tuesday, January 8, 2008.
Bible Memory – Use today to “catch up” on any old memory work you skipped. Nothing new will be assigned before Christmas.
CS3 – Complete the Review Lesson (pp. 30-32 only) and study the map on p.35 for the quiz on Thursday.
Poetry – Recite to a family member (with feeling!) the two stanzas from Emily Dickinson that you chose. Enjoy this poetry! Have them tell you if you make any mistakes.
