Monday, May            8th

 

·      If you or one of your siblings owns Henle First Year, study pp. 91-98, Mastery Vocab. review.  Drill the words out loud 2 times and make flashcards for Adjectives of the Third Declension bottom of p. 96 to top of p. 97.  Drill those adjectives a third time.  When you drill them you should say, “ brevis, brevis, breve”, for example because the masculine and feminine forms are the same, thus “brevis, brevis,” and the neuter is “breve”.  We will talk more about this in class on Tuesday.  If you or your sibling does not own Henle 1st Year, please order it right away, call me, and I can get these words to you before Tuesday.

 

 

·      Review Famous Men of Rome pp. 95-99 .

·      Know the following people, places and terms:

      Julius Caesar, Caesar’s Commentaries, Julian family, Gaul, Vercingetorix,

         Battle of Zela

·      Know the answers to the following questions:

·      How did Caesar behave towards Sulla and Marius? Why?

·      What was Caesar first appointed to?

·      What did it mean for the Romans to “Cross the Rubicon”?  What does it mean in today’s language?

·      Who killed Pompey and where was he killed?

·       

Wednesday, May 10th

·      In your Henle books, you will find boxes with writing in them called “Rules” Copy all the “Rules” from pp. 6-90 into a notebook.

·      Review Famous Men of Rome pp. 95-99.

·      Know the answers to the following questions:

·      What did Julius Caesar do for Rome?

·      How did Caesar’s assassins justify their actions to the people?

 

            Friday, May 12th

 

·      Bravo to all my students for a great start in Henle 1st Year! As you may have already noticed, the first 10 Lessons or so of Henle 1st Year are covered in Latina Christiana II which we have just completed.  I’m giving you this broad introduction to Henle before school ends so that we may hit the ground running in September.  You have had an amazing foundation and are now ready to tackle the high school level text and learn more of the Latin grammar and vocabulary.  Continue to recite the 3rd declension adjectives and to drill the vocabulary on pp. 95-99.  Also continue to drill the rules you copied into your notebooks on Wednesday.

·      Translate ex. 13, p. 19.  Also, do the diagramming of #’s 2, 3, and 10.

 

            Monday, May 15th

 

·      Review  Famous Men of Rome pp. 101-109.

·      Identify the following:

·      Julian Calendar, Ides of March, Brutus, and Mark Antony

·      Read Famous Men of Rome pp. 101-109.

·      Identify the following;

·      Cicero, Sergius Catiline, Fulvia, Triumvirate, Catiline Conspiracy.

·      Know the answers to the following questions;

·      What did Cicero look like?

·      What was Fulvia’s role in identifying the Catiline conspiracy?

·      How many others were helping Catiline in is plans to overthrow the government?

·      How did Catiline die?  Where did he die?

·      What happened to Cicero?
