Third Grade Mathematics
The following concepts will be covered:
¤ Time - reading and writing calendar, date, and clock time; calculating time intervals
¤ Counting – whole number intervals, ordinal numbers, numeric patterns, tallying, Roman Numerals, positive and negative numbers on a number line.
¤ Money – value of money; reading, writing and adding amounts of money; estimating money amounts; counting money and making change for $1.00.
¤ Graphing – Creating and reading bar and line graphs; graphing on a coordinate plane
¤ Geometry –linear and volume measurement using English and metric scales; identifying and comparing shapes; finding perimeter and area; properties of lines.
¤ Place Value – ordering numbers, writing numbers in words and digits, rounding
¤ Fractions – identifying, depicting and writing fractions; comparing fractions, adding fractions with a common denominator, mixed numbers, improper fractions
The following operations will be practiced:
¤ Addition – adding one- to five-digit numbers; adding dollars and cents; regrouping
¤ Subtraction – subtracting one- to three-digit numbers, regrouping
¤ Multiplication – multiplication tables 1-12, multiplying by multiples of 10, prime numbers to 20, perfect squares
¤ Division – dividing one- and two-digit numbers, remainders, fact families
¤ Order of operations (brief introduction).
¤ Supervise and ensure completion of home assignments.
¤ Grade completed workbook pages.

Student Texts: Developmental Math 8, 9, 10, Saxon 3 student worksheets
Classroom Supplies Brought by Student: Number Two Pencils, eraser, manual pencil sharpener.
Home Supplies Provide by Parent: 12-inch/30-cm ruler, highlighter pen, addition/subtraction and multiplication/division flashcards
Evaluation of student performance will be in written assessment format, rather than provided as a letter grade.
