Dear Parents,
Today in class, we learned the
concept of area and perimeter of rectangles.
The area was defined as the amount of space or units that fit inside a
shape. The perimeter is the amount of
units that fit on the “rim” or outside of the shape. The children completed the Miquon page T21 in class discussing this concept. T22, T23, and T24 have been assigned as
optional if your family would like to pursue this topic.
The children start the Gamma book Lesson 1 tomorrow. I will not be handing this out as a handout. You will find this in the Gamma book. The
students will be introduced to “area” by building blocks and
multiplication. I also will handout
Lesson 24 from the Beta book which will review “Subtraction
using Regrouping” and checking your work.
If this is difficult for your student, just do the odd problems. This area on the test was challenging for all
of the students in the class. I will
continue to supply review sheets for the students to make their addition and
subtraction skills more solid throughout the year. Please use the example to teach your child at
home and have the student demonstrate back to you. Also, please remind students to label their
word problems. This is a good skill to
have.
I am proud of the children’s progress.

haven’t kept track of how much time your child has spent with the class work,
please do so. Please write down any
comments you have too. Thank-you for all you do at home. It truly is making a
difference in your children.
