Dear Parents,

This week, Delta lesson 5 is new introducing perpendicular and parallel lines and we will continue to learn double digit multiplication with Gamma lesson 23.  I discovered students getting confused regarding place value. Before we go on it is important the students are able to line up the problems correctly and keep place value.  I would like to see the children demonstrate building the factor rectangle, multiplying the problem in the correct order, line up the numbers correctly and add correctly.   Multiple lessons have been listed so the parent can choose from Gamma lesson 23 depending on what they completed last week.   Parents, please watch the video for lessons 22-24 with your student so that both of you see the building of the blocks with these math problems if you haven’t already. The child is to build the rectangle of the factors which actually serves as a check for their answer.  Also, when I reviewed the trick for 11 multiplied by a double digit number, I noticed the children understood the trick so they didn’t demonstrate the whole problem.  Please have your student show the work and check it with the “Split it and Add” trick, and then correct it if he/she doesn’t get it correct.    Miquon is assigned as a review this week because some students missed the addition and subtraction regrouping problems on the test.
