Dear Parents,

This week  the Math U See assignment is a review of 2 concepts: perimeter and area.  In class, I explain to the students that perimeter is adding up the RIM of the shape and the area is the space or area  inside shapes calculated by multiplying.  It is not uncommon for students to get these confused especially in word problems.  The students will multiply by 6’s.  Please, do the fraction problems in the Yellow Book because this will be new for them.  I recommend watching the video segment of Math U See lesson 13 if one hasn’t already with the student so that one understands the equivalent fraction explanation.  Using the Miquon Yellow Book, I will take it one step farther and introduce addition of fractions making a common denominator and multiplying fractions.
