Dear Parents,

I want to thank-you for the opportunity to teach your child this year. I look forward to your child discovering the excitement of learning math. Tuesday, I assessed the children using the Math U See book assessments. For the first concept, I would like to review “addition of multiple digits” this week to introduce the manipulatives.

This week, please read the handout titled “Place Value and the Manipulatives” for lesson 1. This will explain how to use the Math U See manipulatives while teaching the lesson at home and will give you the base of the Math U See curriculum. For Friday’s lesson, please read “Multiple Digit Addition and Place Value Notation”.

Each class day will consist of 2 speed drills to review addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts to be advanced at child’s own pace. Miquon math books will be used in class with manipulatives. Math U See lessons will be taught and started in class. Mastery of concepts will take place at home with completion of lesson pages using manipulatives. Please bring Yellow Miquon book to class.
