Class Description:
Students will work together through the texts with guidance and explanations. Students will review addition math facts orally as well as in written format. Oral chants will be a common occurance with students skip counting. We will use manipulatives to reinforce the arithmetic concepts from the text and to introduce topics not covered in the text such as measurement, geometry, time, and money. Math games will be used during the year. Supplemental sheets may be given to reinforce topics covered in class.
The Developmental Math texts cover the following topics:
Level 5: Tens & Ones without grouping.
Level 6: Tens & Ones: Adding and Grouping covers adding with grouping in
horizontal and vertical forms using the 45 addition facts of grouping.
Level 7: Tens & Ones: Subtracting with Exchange
covers subtracting with exchange in horizontal and vertical forms using the 45
subtraction facts of exchange.
Expectations:
We will progresss together mastering math facts and in understanding topics together. Students will spend approximately 30 – 45 minutes per assignment at home.
