Science 3 Week 29, May 15, 2006

Dear Science 3 families,

This week we will continue studying the moon.  I apologize for the mishap in the timing of the moon’s phases.  Some of the children asked for directions to make their own moon phase poster. There will be an extra credit prize for those who do it.  Directions for this will be sent home on Thursday for your child to complete if he desires.  To celebrate the class reading 1600 pages of science reading this past year the kids wanted to go bowling.  It will be on Tuesday May 30th after Live Oak testing. Please have student bring $10 for bowling and snacks.  I am happy to drive the kids to the bowling alley; however, the prinicpal requires I get a release of liability.  This will be sent home on Thursday.  Thank-you so much for the opportunity to teach your children.  They truly have been such a joy and are all so eager to learn and understand.  I look forward to celebrating with them.

Chant:              My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas.

Mercury – Venus – Earth – Mars – Jupiter – Saturn – Uranus – Neptune – Pluto

Plant Chant ( sing to Old Mac Donald)

It takes 3 things to make a plant grow

Water, Sunlight, and CO2

And the plant makes sugar and oxygen

Well this green stuff is called chlorophyll

Plants are green because of chlorophyll

And there are 2 kinds of tubes in a plant

That are smaller than an ant

The xylem brings the water up

The phloem brings that sugar down

Well you might ask, “What is all this?”

We call this photosynthesis

We call this photosynthesis
