Bible Memory Activities At Live Oak Academy, we memorize the Bible together. Each family downloads a Memorization Guide and works through the year, memorizing some or all of the verses. Each student also has an individualized record sheet (Verse Card) to keep track of his or her progress. Many of the scripture selections are about a paragraph in length. Younger children will memorize a single key verse, while older children are asked to memorize the whole passage. In this way, verses will be learned in context. Also, students taking the Christian Studies class will have a chance to discuss the verses together in the classroom. The memorization
work should require 10-15
minutes, about three times a week. Memorizing
the scriptures would make an ideal family time activity. The particular scriptures were chosen because of their traditional use in training children. For example, we will be learning the Ten Commandments, the Lord's Prayer, and the 23rd Psalm. Families are encouraged to add their own favorites to the list. For the sake of a mutually encouraging group experience, we are using a particular Bible translation for group recitation and for the Guide. We have chosen the English Standard Version, a modern yet literal rendering of the original languages. The Guide comes in two phases, A and B, which are used in alternate academic years. |
