How to connect teacher folders with Vista Home Premium:
Part One – Dry Run
á Go to ÒMy ComputerÓ
á Click the ÒMap Network DriveÓ button on the blue task bar underneath the File, Edit, &c. dropdown menu bar
á A window will come up titled ÒMap Network DriveÓ
á Click the blue link at the bottom that says ÒConnect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and picturesÓ
á A welcome window comes up for ÒAdd Network Location WizardÓ
á Click ÒNextÓ
á Click to highlight ÒChoose a custom network locationÓ
á Click ÒNextÓ
á Type in the network address http://liveoakacademy.org/protected/fredsmith (putting in your own name)
á Instead of asking for your user name and password, it says something like, ÒThe folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another.Ó
á Oh, no, it doesnÕt work! Why not? Vista needs to download a patchÉ
Part Two – Fixing Vista
á This will let you download the Software Update for Web Folders (KB907306), file name Webfldrs-KB907306-ENU.exe , Version 2, which Òenables you to update the Web Folders component in Microsoft Windows operating systems, and provides additional functionalityÉÓ
á Download the software. Vista will probably ask you, the administrator, several times along the way whether you want to let it do stuff. Click yes. (One of those, I believe, was a program something like rosebud.exe) You may need to choose something like ÒrunÓ along the way as well. Eventually, it should come up with the ÒThank you for downloadingÉÓ page
Part Three – Setting Up the Folders
á Follow the steps as in Part One. When you type in the network address and click ÒNext,Ó instead of having a fit it should bring up the window asking you for the password.
á
Proceed from there É At this
point the details are pretty much the same as for Windows XP. See more details
